Federal depository libraries play an essential role to educators, researchers, professionals and to the American public by providing Federal government information at no cost. These promotional tools are designed to empower Federal depository libraries with the ability to effectively encourage the general public to use the services that are provided. Targeted strategic marketing plans, give-away items, logos for download, posters and informative resources are just some of the tools available for implementation.

Celebrate, Reflect, and Promote your Library

Be it for one year or one hundred years, anniversaries provide excellent opportunities to promote your library and the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) with public displays and events. They are a time to celebrate and a time to reflect past achievements, recognize present achievements, and announce or re-emphasize future plans.

GPO is proud to serve these libraries in their long-term commitment to making Federal Government information available to the public through the FDLP. GPO has developed and collected a variety of tips and suggestions in order to help your depository celebrate your milestone, reflect on your library’s evolution, and promote your library’s resources and services.

marketing-bAudio Public Service Announcements (PSAs) promoting Federal depository libraries are now available for free. One is targeted at college students, faculty, and staff whose institution has a depository on campus and the other is a general PSA promoting the FDLP.

The two PSAs are available to download as a zip archive file. Each archive contains the PSA in MP3, WAV, and AIFF file formats. A transcript of the PSA is also included as a text file.

GPO has been proactively contacting many college and public radio stations around the country, but we need your help. If you have a station you would like to recommend for airing a FDLP PSA, we would love to hear from you. GPO will be happy to reach out to the station for airing the PSA.

Visit askGPO and please provide us with the name of your academic institution and any contact information you have for your radio station of choice. When submitting a question, please choose the category "Federal Depository Libraries" and the subcategory “Marketing Strategies/Radio Spots.”
