In September 2018, the Library of Congress began releasing Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports to the public at crsreports.congress.gov. Under an agreement with the Library, GPO catalogs individual reports in the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP). Since the reports are updated frequently, GPO has cataloged each report as an integrating resource. The PURLs in the records link directly to the CRS site.

As of July 31, 2021, GPO has cataloged 7,466 CRS reports. GPO has posted files of the records in UTF-8, MARC-8, and MARCXML in the Congressional Research Service Reports Collection of the CGP on the GitHub repository. GitHub is a web-based computer source code sharing and publishing service.

Information about downloading the files is available on the Sources of GPO Cataloging Records page on FDLP.gov. A GitHub account is not required for downloading the files.

Four monographic series are represented in the files:

  • CRS Report (LC 14.23) - 5,217
  • In Focus (LC 14.24) - 1,460
  • Insight (LC 14.25/2) - 602
  • Legal Sidebar (LC 14.25) - 1,056

The records can be retrieved in the CGP by this expert mode search: wlts=CRSREP.
