The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Pueblo Distribution Center (PDC) in Pueblo, CO. The center first opened its doors on October 11, 1971 and has been a critical part of helping the agency fulfill its mission of Keeping America Informed by distributing Government publications to consumers across the Nation. The Center provides warehousing and distribution services to 34 Federal agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration, the National Park Service, and the Department of Education. Teammates have distributed more than 1.3 billion publications in the last five decades! All FDLP promotional items are shipped to nationwide Federal depository libraries from the Center.

“Congratulations to all the current and former GPO teammates in Pueblo for their commitment to providing a first-class customer experience over the last 50 years,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. “This Center’s continued success through the last five decades proves that the demand for print items is still very much alive, and GPO is happy to answer the call.”

The Center’s workforce reached its peak in 1977 with 126 employees. Today, the Center’s 25 teammates remain as busy as ever, with annual customer orders having increased more than six times from FY15 to FY21, demonstrating the public’s continued demand for print publications.

The Center’s top two publications distributed in FY21 were the National Park Service’s “Grand Canyon South Rim Pocket Map” and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s “Play it Safe Online” placemat. From 1973 to 2016, PDC distributed 880 million copies of the General Service Administration’s Consumer Information Catalog, its most popular item ever sold. The Center was regularly mentioned during Public Service Announcements for the Consumer Information Catalog in the 1970s. Due to the high volume of publications at PDC, the center has its own zip code.
