It's time again to conduct the Biennial Survey of Depository Libraries. This year's survey is different from past surveys. In addition to the Biennial Survey, you'll find this is also a needs assessment. Library Services and Content Management wants to learn "how well we are doing" and "what we need to do next" in order to better support your needs. The survey will run from October 15 through November 30, 2009.

This survey is to be submitted by ALL Federal depository libraries. It is through this mechanism that depositories fulfill their legal obligation to "report to the Superintendent of Documents at least every two years concerning their condition" (44 USC 1909).

The survey is online and will take about 15 minutes to complete. To login:

USER: Depository library # (e.g., 0064D)
PASSWORD: GPO-assigned internal password

Once you are logged in, download the survey from the introduction page. Fill it out with the answers you will submit online and review it with your director. This will serve as your survey responses for your records. In order to have verification that your survey was submitted, print the last page of the survey that states, "Those are all of our questions."

If you need your password, or if you have any questions related to the interpretation of the questions, please use askGPO. For any technical questions about the survey please send them to [email protected].

Federal depository libraries were required to complete the 2009 Biennial Survey by November 30, 2009.
