boarman1The American Library Association (ALA)’s midwinter conference kicked off last week in San Diego, CA, which coincided with William J. Boarman’s first week as Public Printer of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO). Given the timing of these events, Mr. Boarman was regrettably unable to attend; however, he prepared a statement for conference participants conveying his greetings and vision for the future.

Mr. Boarman expressed his admiration for the role that librarians play in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) by providing permanent public access to Government information. He also stated that it was important for the FDLP to continue to be responsive to the needs of patrons by working with the library community to provide access to Government information both digitally and in print format.

The statement also includes Mr. Boarman’s top priorities for the FDLP during his tenure and conveys the critical need for close collaboration with the Depository Library Council, library associations, and the Federal depository library community in “preserving, protecting, and extending the historic goal of the program to keep America informed."
