By the authority of the Joint Committee on Printing, the U.S. Government Printing Office's (GPO) Congressional oversight committee, paper versions of the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (MoCat), its serials supplement, or the Congressional Serial Set Catalog will no longer be published. These products are replaced by the web-based Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP).

The December 2004 edition of the MoCat is the last one to be printed. It was distributed to depositories on shipping list 2007-0235-P dated May 8, 2007. The last Serials Supplement was distributed in two volumes to depositories on shipping list 2005-0088 dated February 23, 2005. The Congressional Serial Set Catalog that covers the 105th Congress will be the final print edition of this title. It is currently in the editing stage.

GPO staff closed the MoCat entries in the CGP, OCLC, List of Classes, our mainframe systems, and the U.S. Government Bookstore. Changes were reported in WebTech Notes, and Administrative Notes Technical Supplement.

All paid subscriptions to the MoCat were fulfilled effective with the receipt of the December 2004 issue, which was mailed to subscribers on May 1, 2007. Those of you who receive additional copies of the MoCat through Sales Program subscriptions will be notified by GPO within the next month.

At its spring 2003 meeting, the Depository Library Council recommended that GPO replace the printed version of the MoCat and Serials Supplement with "dynamic online versions". Since this time the Federal depository library community has been consulted on the features, usability, and acceptability of the online replacement using the OPAC module of GPO's Aleph integrated library system. The CGP, with searchable subsets of Serial Set, periodicals, and serials records, was first launched almost 16 months ago in March 2006.

Print production of the Numerical Lists and Schedule of Serial Set Volumes, currently incorporated into the Congressional Serial Set Catalog, will continue pursuant to 44 U.S.C. Sec. 1710 and the original Depository Library Council recommendation.
