H.R. 1654 – Federal Register Modernization Act Speakers:
Federal Register Modernization Act, H.R. 1654, recently passed the House of Representatives and now resides in the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. The Depository Library Council is charged with reviewing H.R. 1654 and identifying concerns and impacts its passage into law may have on Federal depository libraries and the Federal Depository Library Program. Join this discussion session to share your users’ experiences with the Federal Register and share your thoughts about H.R. 1654.

Stewarding Small: Comprehensive Collecting Speakers:
Federal depository libraries are collaborating in new ways within and across regions. Collection development and preservation projects abound; pilot strategies and FDLP eXchange make our work new yet again. So how are these efforts helping to build a distributed national collection? This program builds on past DLC sessions about comprehensive collections as we learn about practices at several depositories. Through lively discussion, this session will inspire attendees to contribute content, services, and expertise.

Digital Deposit: A Value Proposition Speakers:
This session aims to define and demonstrate value of digital deposit for the FDLP community. Though discussion of digital deposit has been circulating in the FDLP community since the early 2000s, a recent Council recommendation and GPO-proposed pilot project are adding momentum to this model. This session also seeks feedback from the community regarding the value of digital deposit and problems it could solve regarding digital content for FDLs and the public we keep informed.

Preserving the National Collection: Services for Depository Libraries Speakers:
The Superintendent of Documents (SOD) can only ensure permanent public access to both the tangible and digital collections that make up the National Collection of U.S. Government Information by preserving it. Because GPO does not have a library collection, the National Collection is necessarily a distributed collection with holdings in depository libraries. This situation presents challenges to overcoming some unknowns about the collection. Join this session to hear how pilot projects will help provide answers, while at the same time laying the foundation for the SOD to provide continuing preservation services for Federal depository libraries.

LSCM Project Updates Speakers:
Join staff members from GPO’s LSCM for updates on some of the major initiatives and projects being undertaken in support of the Federal Depository Library Program and Cataloging & Indexing Program.

Securing Information, Protecting Privacy, Providing Access: Legal Constructs and Library Impacts Speakers:
How can FDLP libraries, or any other libraries, manage to offer secure and authoritative information, ensure user privacy of data, and help protect how users access and use information? This session will take a look at current laws and regulations that focus on security and the impact on user privacy. It will also seek to provide insight on how libraries are managing in the new era of privacy.

|||
Digital-Only Depository Libraries: The Triumphs and the Challenges Speakers:
As the FDLP has transitioned to a primarily electronic or digital program, new FDLP libraries like Loudoun County Public Library have joined as digital-only, choosing not to receive any tangible resources; other depositories, like Loyola University Chicago, are moving, or plan to move, in this same direction. A Council working group is examining what it means to be a digital-only depository and what effect this new model has on FDLP guidance and services as we work toward our vision “to provide Government information when and where it is needed.” Join us in this session to share your thoughts, ask your questions, and to:
