Collection and Discovery Services Subcommittee (2020 -- )
This is a standing subcommittee of the Depository Library Council (DLC) of the that provides a forum where DLC, Federal depository libraries (FDLs), and GPO may explore and discuss opportunities and proposals for collaboration in multiple areas of the program and management and development of depository collections. As the technological world develops rapidly and the physical landscape changes, CDSWG provides opportunities to coordinate thoughts, research, plans, and efforts to move the program forward into the future and to expand and enhance the services we provide to our communities and stakeholders.
This is the final report of the lessons learned from the CDSWG’s open forum, which was conducted October 20, during the fall 2021 meeting of the Depository Library Council.
This revision of the Charter changes the status of this group from a working group to a standing subcommittee of the Depository Library Council. It supersedes the Working Group Charter with the effective date 08/10/2021.
The changes in this revision of the Charter are in the Governance and Membership sections. Among the changes are the elimination of the secretary position and the reduction in the size of the Subcommittee to not exceed 9 members. This Charter supersedes the Subcommittee Charter with the effective date 02/03/2023.

Managing catalog records and the discovery of digital FDLP publications are topics that often raise questions among depository library coordinators. The transition to a digital-first FDLP has made these issues more pressing. To learn more about the concerns, in March 2024, the Depository Library Council’s Collection and Discovery Services Subcommittee (CDSS) launched a survey to understand library practices, needs, and underlying issues to determine what actions can be taken to help depository coordinators with digital collection development and management. This is the report of their findings.
