LSCM GitHub Repositories Updates

The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) posted a new set of all Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP) MARC bibliographic records (1,051,805 as of April 2023) on GitHub. Brief bibliographic records, also known as brief bibs, are included in the files. The records are available in UTF-8 in the cataloging-records-all-cgp-utf8 repository and in MARC XML in the cataloging-records-all-cgp-marcxml repository. In combination with the monthly files in the CGP Records Monthly Files collection of the new Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP) Records Maintenance Files repository, these files essentially represent the entire CGP. GPO will annually post new snapshots of the CGP on GitHub. The size of the zipped UTF-8 files is 1.3 GB, and the size of the zipped MARC XML files is 349 MB. The UTF-8 repository has 26 files of approximately 40,000 records. The MARCXML repository has 27 files of approximately 40,000 records.

GPO’s Library Technical Services (LTS) launched a new GitHub repository, the CGP Records Maintenance Files repository. After the recent refresh of our repositories, LTS refocused the CGP on GitHub repository on record sets based on various chronological, topical, and other metadata, including a new collection of resources on artificial intelligence and related subjects. The repository contains two collections: CGP Records Monthly Files and Online Version Records without Item Numbers. The CGP Records Monthly Files collection contains the monthly files of new and changed records posted during the year between each annual set of all CGP records. The records are available in three types of files:

New and changed records in combined files
New records only
Changed records only
