The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) has been named to the Forbes list of America’s Best Employers for Veterans 2024. The Agency was also recognized for this honor in 2022 and 2023. GPO has a long-standing history of employing veterans dating back to the Civil War and currently employs nearly 500 veterans who make up one third of the Agency’s workforce. For decades, the Agency has hosted an annual Veterans Day Program in recognition of the service and sacrifice of our GPO veteran teammates. This year, Army Specialist Jessica Kwiatkowski, the first female infantry soldier to earn a Tomb Badge, was the guest speaker at the event. Kwiatkowski gained the attention of the public when a video of her guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during a severe thunderstorm went viral in 2023.

From the Civil War to today, veterans have contributed to GPO’s mission of serving the Federal Government and the American people. To once again be named as a best place for veterans shows that GPO is a great place to work,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern.

Forbes and Statista selected GPO as part of the America’s Best Employers for Veterans 2024 through an independent survey from a vast sample of nearly 24,000 U.S. veterans (having served in the United States Armed Forces - including the National Guard and military reserves) working for companies employing at least 1,000 people within the United States. Veterans were asked to give their opinion on a series of statements related to general topics regarding their employer such as atmosphere and development, image, working conditions, salary and wage, workplace, and diversity, as well as a set of topics related specifically to the interests of veterans in the workplace.
