The United States Marine Corps has requested the Superintendent of Documents withdraw certain volumes of historic military registers distributed to depository libraries through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) due to the presence of personally identifiable information (PII).  This action is in accordance with Superintendent of Documents Public Policy Statement (SOD-PPS) 8-2024, Withdrawal of Federal information products from the National Collection of U.S. Government Public Information and GPO’s online U.S. Government Bookstore

The affected volumes were issued to depository libraries in microfiche format. Please immediately remove and destroy the listed volumes from your collection. The Superintendent of Documents issued an official notification letter about this requirement for all Federal depository libraries on Monday, January 26, 2026. ALL DEPOSITORY LIBRARIES must complete the Withdrawal Action Form in order to comply with this recall. The form asks all FDLP libraries to indicate one of the following for each title in question:

  1. I have properly withdrawn and destroyed all or as many of the volume(s) as were found in my library’s collection.
  2. N/A – I do not have any of the volumes in my library’s collection.

The deadline to respond is Thursday,February 26, 2026.

Please note: Selecting depository libraries received the volumes in microfiche format. However, paper copies were available from the U.S. Marine Corps at the time of publication, and publishers such as Readex included military registers in their commercial products. We recommend you review your collections and handle non-depository copies in accordance with your institution’s policy for PII.

Additional information about recall procedures for Federal depository materials, destruction instructions, and a list of archived withdrawal actions can be found in the Recall of Depository Material FDLP Guidance article.

Please submit any questions via askGPO using the Federal Depository Library customer type, and the Withdrawal/Recall category.
