Celebrate World Digital Preservation Day
Happy World Digital Preservation Day! This year, the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) wishes to share the worldwide celebration of digital preservation taking place on November 3, 2022.
GPO is eager to collaborate with you and your library or institution’s collections to increase access to digital publications through our digital repository, GovInfo. GovInfo is the only ISO 16363:2012 Trustworthy Digital Repository (TDR) certified repository in the world, ensuring long-term, reliable access to more than three million publications from all three branches of the Federal Government. GPO endeavors to fulfill the mission of our repository’s collection through the priorities outlined within our Collection Development Plan.
As a Digital Content Contributor, your library could help us by contributing digitally imaged Federal Government publications that meet GPO specifications for ingest. Whenever contributors share a copy of digitally imaged content from their library’s or agency’s own collection for ingest into the repository, GPO provides ongoing access and preservation of the digital content. In addition, you contribute to the National Collection of U.S. Government Public Information.
GPO works alongside partners to provide guidance and assistance at every step of the way, from digital imaging, to file organization, to metadata creation, and easy file transfer. Digital content guidance documents from GPO are available for more information:
- Digital Content Contributor MOA template
- Guidance for Packaging Digital Content for Submission to GovInfo
- Guidance for Digitally Imaging Content for Submission to GovInfo
If you have questions or comments about these guidance documents, or if you are planning a digital imaging project and would like assistance with planning the project or working with a commercial vendor, please contact GPO’s preservation program at [email protected]. If you would like to contribute content that is already digitally imaged to GovInfo, please contact the Partnership Team.
