In December, libraries were alerted to the phase out of microfiche distribution in the FDLP. As part of the phase out process, selective depository libraries are strongly encouraged to review their item selection profile to identify microfiche that they are currently receiving. Microfiche selectors have an opportunity to select the paper equivalent of microfiche titles.

Additionally, selectives currently relying on another library’s microfiche selection may want to consider profiling for the paper format themselves if they feel they need a tangible copy laocally.

To add item numbers to a selection profile, log in to DSIMS, and add the paper format item numbers. A list of microfiche titles and their alternate formats is available. The deadline for getting selections into DSIMS is April 22, 2022, midnight (EDT). Libraries that meet this deadline will have their selections activated by Monday, April 25, 2022. Libraries that miss the April 22 deadline can still add paper format item numbers to their DSIMS selection cart; however, they will not be activated until October 1.

Please note that libraries will not need to drop or deselect microfiche item numbers. GPO will inactivate microfiche item numbers as content conversion is completed.
