New forms are now available for the submission of questions related to bibliographic records for Federal depository libraries. The forms are intended to facilitate the submission process and to enable GPO’s Library Technical Services staff to respond to questions more expeditiously. The forms will be used to submit questions in three inquiry categories:

  • Cataloging/Metadata (Policy and Records)
  • Classification and Item Numbers
  • PURLs

To submit inquiries in any of these categories, please visit askGPO and click on the Federal Depository Library tile.

There are two versions of the forms in all categories: one for general questions and one for questions about specific records or publications. When submitting a question about specific records or publications, various metadata elements can be added about the publications or records and then saved to a list. Before the list of publications or records is submitted, any of the metadata elements or entire entries in the list may be edited or deleted.

Library Technical Services staff members will use the structured metadata entered in the forms to expedite the research required to answer questions or change existing records, batch process publications when possible, and compile metrics about these askGPO questions.

A brief tutorial video is available on the askGPO Training for Federal Depository Libraries page: Submitting an Inquiry with Details About a Specific Publication. For questions or feedback about the forms, please submit a general inquiry in the Cataloging/Metadata (Policy and Records) category.
