Date: Wednesday, November 16, 2022
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. (EDT)

  • Speaker: Jane Canfield, Coordinator of Federal Documents, Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico
  • Learning outcomes: Almost 100% of my depository users in Puerto Rico are native Spanish speakers. The first question my users ask is, “Can I get information in Spanish?” The second is often, “How do I know that I can trust that information?” According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 350 languages are spoken in the USA. Most speakers of those languages are immigrants or the children of immigrants. Many of them come from countries where fear of government and lack of government transparency are the normal situation. This webinar will address how to help your users overcome their fears, while also verifying that the information they are receiving from the Government is accurate and truthful. We’ll also explore search strategies for finding information in other languages, which is not always an easy task. Finally, the webinar will offer specific resources in other languages covering areas such as education, health, the workplace, citizenship, and learning English. Join us to learn how you can better serve your users who are speakers of other languages.
