Streamlining the Disposal Process: Making it Easier for Everyone Speakers:

The Comprehensive Preservation Plan for Government Documents: A Discussion of NAPA Recommendation #3 Speakers:
In January 2013, after a ten-month study conducted at the request of Congress, the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) concluded that GPO “should work with depository libraries and other library groups to develop a comprehensive plan for preserving the print collection of government documents,” including cataloging and digitizing. Bringing Order to Chaos: Capturing the Federal Web for Permanent Public Access Speakers:
Brewster Kahle, founder of the Internet Archive, has been quoted as saying “the Web is a mess.” As we all know, Federal agencies create, change, and remove Web content without notice. Federal agency Web masters also increasingly develop more and more complex Web sites using dynamic Web technology which makes archiving these sites a challenge. Members of LSCM’s Web Archiving team will share how they are addressing the “messy” issues of the Federal Web and increasing the discoverability and access to Web content through Web harvesting and archiving. Digital Public Library of America Speakers:
The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) is a national effort that seeks to build a comprehensive digital library of rich content from America’s libraries, archives, and museums, making them freely available to the world. It strives to contain the full breadth of human expression, from the written word, to works of art and culture, to records of America’s heritage, and to the efforts of e-science. DPLA Director of Content, Emily Gore, will provide a glimpse of the overarching DPLA service model and provide insight on some of the ways that it is directly benefiting the public. Anthony D. Smith, GPO Director of Projects and Systems, will share with the audience some of the early work that is taking place to bring government information directly to DPLA’s large audience of public users.
