California, Illinois, Oklahoma, & Wisconsin Adopt FDLP eXchange

The Superintendent of Documents is pleased to announce that four additional states have adopted FDLP eXchange to simplify the process for offering depository material when weeding FDLP collections.

The decision was adopted by the five designated regional depositories in these single-state regions: the California State Library (0040), the Illinois State Library (0140), Oklahoma State University (0488), the University of Wisconsin, Madison (0664), and the Milwaukee Public Library (0670).

As a result, all 158 Federal depository libraries in these four regions can offer their Federal Government publications – in all formats – to their regional depository, other selective depositories in their region, and depository libraries nationwide.  These states join the following regions in using FDLP eXchange for their primary disposition process:

  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut and Rhode Island
  • Hawaii, Guam, and Federated State of Micronesia
  • Iowa
  • Idaho
  • Kansas
  • Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Delaware
  • Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont
  • Minnesota, South Dakota, and Michigan
  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Texas
  • Washington and Alaska
  • West Virginia

Depository libraries are required to offer weeded FDLP material to other libraries through the process established by their designated regional depositor(ies) in accordance with (44 U.S.C. §1912). For regions that have adopted FDLP eXchange, libraries enter offered materials once, then automated workflow rules make the materials available to other libraries in the order required by Title 44.

Any depository can use FDLP eXchange as a collection development tool by entering needs into the system and be alerted when matching offers become available to them. Offering materials nationally helps ensure that they are offered to our 42 Preservation Stewards and other libraries actively filling gaps in their collections.

GPO would like to thank the five designated regional depositories in these single-state regions for strengthening the National Collection of U.S. Government Public Information by expanding the use of FDLP eXchange to their regions.
