Description
This Defense Department’s regional security studies center seeks to develop the capabilities of defense and security professionals from Western Hemisphere countries to enhance their security policymaking and promote greater understanding of U.S. regional policymaking. Its establishment dates from a 1995 conference of Western Hemisphere defense ministers hosted by then U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry. This webinar will discuss this center’s academic mission and include broadcasts of past presentations and research publications addressing hemispheric security topics including drug trafficking, the pandemic’s impact, migration, and the interest of outside powers such as China in this region, whose security interests and developments may not receive as much public attention as Indo-Pacific, Middle East, or Europe but which are just as important to U.S. foreign policy and national security interests.
