Gain an overview of your library’s depository operation.
Locate or identify:
- Library staff involved in the depository operation and their roles.
- This may include reference librarians, catalogers or systems librarians, electronic resource managers, collection management librarians, staff opening up depository shipments, etc.
- Depository collections
- Location(s) and format(s).
- Formats in the FDLP have historically included print, microfiche, maps, electronic media (CDs, DVD-ROMs, and disks), posters, pamphlets, kits, puzzles, and ephemera.
- How FDLP content in all formats at the library is made accessible or available through, for example, cataloging and inclusion in web pages, guides, or other library resources.
- Your library’s FDLP item selections, which you can find in the FDLP Data Manager (FDM) List of Classes module. You can also find just item numbers, without any description, in Item Lister and DSIMS.
- Procedures or other documentation addressing:
- How FDLP digital content is identified and included in your library’s collection.
- Processing of any print receipts as a Print Distribution Title or Special Selection Offers recipient.
- See below to determine if your library is acquiring any publications in physical format.
- Depository collection management, including weeding, if the library holds a physical collection.
- Official Selective Housing Agreements, if any.
- These may also be called Shared Housing Agreements or are part of a Memorandum of Understanding.
- Official FDLP Partnership agreements, if any.
- Location(s) and format(s).
- How your library promotes and makes depository collections and services visible.

- Historical documentation about your depository operation:
- Biennial Survey of Depository Libraries submissions.
