Laurie Hall, long-time Managing Director of GPO’s Library Services & Content Management, is retiring as of today, September 30, 2024.

Ms. Hall joined GPO in 1985 and served as GPO’s Superintendent of Documents for seven years, only the third woman in GPO’s history to have held that position. She has also served in other key roles at GPO, such as Director of Library Technical Services, Supervisory Program Analyst, Serials Cataloger, Cataloging Section Chief, Cataloging Branch Chief, and Director of Bibliographic Services.

Laurie Hall has contributed significantly to key Agency initiatives, such as:

  • The acquisition of GPO’s first Integrated Library System.

  • Procuring the learning management system for the FDLP Academy.
  • Acquiring Documents Data Miner.
  • The FDLP Forecast Study.
  • Managing the decade-long collaboration with the Law Library of Congress to digitize and make available volumes of the United States Congressional Serial Set back to the first volume, which was published in 1817.
  • The Task Force on a Digital FDLP.

In 2021, Laurie Hall was the recipient of the Raymond Von Dran Memorial Award from the Catholic University of America (CUA) Library and Information Science (LIS) Alumni Association.

Over the years, Ms. Hall has worked with thousands of GPO staff members, members of the Depository Library Council, and members of the FDLP community. Thank you, Laurie, for nearly four decades of contributions to the Federal Depository Library Program and your work to ensure free public access to U.S. Government information.
