Description

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) is a U.S. Department of Transportation Agency responsible for America’s waterborne transportation system. Its policy making responsibilities cover ships and shipping, port and vessel operations, national security, environment, and safety. MARAD promotes waterborne transportation and makes sure it integrates well with other transportation nodes. It also maintains a fleet of cargo ships to provide extra sea lift capability in times of war or national emergency while also seeking to maintain U.S. Merchant Marine health. This webinar describes MARAD’s historical background and contemporary developments, while demonstrating information resources and data it uses to carry out current and emerging missions.
