Title 44 Modernization: Where Are We Now? - session begins at the 1 minute, 30 second mark Speakers:
In June 2017, the Depository Library Council was charged with making recommendations to amend Title 44, Chapter 19, U.S. Code, to improve the operation of the Federal Depository Library Program. The DLC developed its recommendations based on many comments and discussions within the FDLP community. While this work proceeded, the Committee on House Administration was preparing a bill to amend Title 44, and the DLC responded with comments on the draft. This session reviews the events of the past nine months and provides an update on where matters currently stand. It also invites further comments from those attending the Virtual Meeting. Reaching Our Underserved Populations: Government Information Is for All the People - session begins at the 1 hour, 17 minute mark Speakers:
The presentation is an overview of the underserved populations. It identifies specific groups, such as speakers of other languages and tribal groups, which are characterized as underserved. It provides resources that are available to assist these vulnerable communities, as well as a brief synopsis of GPO’s outreach activities to tribal populace. In addition, it describes a unique and easy to remember, nationally-recognized telephone number “211,” which is available to assist persons and connect them with community services and resources while it reveals how this unique resource could be useful to libraries and communities at large as presented by Memphis Public Libraries. More Sunshine: Shedding Light on Copyright Instruction & Open Access - session begins at the 2 hour, 30 minute mark Speakers:
What lessons can the FDLP community take from our scholarly communications compatriots’ efforts to promote information literacy and information access? Parallels abound, from needing to find a reasonable response when asked to explain copyright and fair use in twenty minutes, to mirrored concerns between today’s open publishing environment and the potential privatization of government information. We will consider these challenges in the context of libraries’ roles in teaching, research, and publishing, and what individual librarians can do to further this work. Date Recorded: 04/19/2018 Duration: 3 hours 35 minutes
